Q&A Does your small business have a warehouse?
Hello everyone, welcome welcome!
Today's question is about the overall size and capacity of SewnbySabrina.
Over the years I have had multiple different sizes of set ups, however no, I do not have a warehouse like you're probably thinking of. No big concrete building with forklifts, and tall bins with employees wearing security vests filling your orders while I sit in an office above the production floor.
Far from it...
I work from home, everything is contained in our basement apartment. I have a dedicated space in the living room for my sewing table, it gets more natural light than our bedroom where I had been working before so it encourages me to work more in this space. It's also where we have our heater, so I can keep the room nice and toasty.
I have a storage area under the stairs that's a good size, I keep my bins there with finished products so its easy for me to go in and pick orders. I can touch on how I organize everything in a later post.
Then I have all my shipping supplies in our bedroom closet.
I try to make use of all the space we have while also being mindful and trying to take up as little of our lived space as I can. Which isn't a huge issue our apartment is fairly big compared so we aren't cramped even if SewnbySabrina grows in the future.
I tend to cut my fabric on the floor when it's too big for the table, to swap out my two machines to save space on the table and try my best to keep things as tidy as I can while working.
One of my goals in the future when my partner and I build our own house is that I can have a whole room for sewing and another for my inventory. After all my goal with SewnbySabrina is to grow it and so I can eventually venture into more different kinds of products. However, I am conscious of the fact that at some point things may become too big to keep at home. At that time I would look into renting a space where I can work outside of home.
