Q&A What are your goals for your business in 2025?
Hello everyone and welcome back to another installment of Q&A a series of posts covering my experiences as a young small business owner.
Today's question is: what are my goals for 2025?
I have a lot of goals that I have made for SewnbySabrina for 2025. Some of them I have already checked off my list.
At the end of 2024 I took a notebook and wrote down as many goals and things I wanted to do in the coming year as I could think of. This was both for my personal life and for my business. I don't have a rule when it comes to those goals, I can add more as time goes on and I can have goals that I haven't finished by the time the new year comes around roll over to 2026.
Some of the goals I have set are goals that I know I will not be able to finish in time for 2026 and I am okay with that, as long as I start them in 2025.
These are in no particular order:
Creating my Shopify website, SewnbySabrina.
In early January I made the website with help from my partner and since then I have been learning more things to improve the site to make it more like I had envisioned it. Things still aren't perfect and I know that in the future I will make more improvements and changes.
However, this was a big goal for me, because it allows me to start moving all of my inventory over from my Etsy shop The Craftsmen Guild and have it on my own platform where I can customize so much of my customer experience.
Organizing my inventory.
In January I was also able to separate and count everything that I had already made. Placing scrunchies into bins and labeling what was inside of which, allowing me more ease when it comes to picking orders. I don't have to rummage through two or three separate bins to find the one scrunchie I was looking for.
Now I can check my excel file, see that there is so many in stock and I can go find that item and change the number total in my spread sheet.
Taking new product pictures.
When I started my Etsy shop in 2020, I didn't have the best phone for taking product pictures, and I was consistent with the background I used. Sometimes it was a piece of cardboard, a piece of tissue paper. Other times it was nature or the tile wall of my bathroom. It wasn't uniform,
I have a light box that I'm using now to take better pictures of everything. Everything is getting new photo, and I'm really happy with how things are turning out so far.
My productivity and self confidence.
These two things go together a lot since I realized how important video content is in the success of a small business in our everyday world. Most people won't sit and real a lengthy post, or stop for something that is simply a picture. You have to grab people's attention which is pretty hard unless you're in front of them.
Slowly I've been working of setting up my phone to livestream while I work on these blog posts. I put on some lo-fi music in the background and try not to look at the camera. I don't like to know if someone is there with me, it helps me stay focused and keep working.
Although I plan on making content with myself speaking and facing the camera sometime soon. I just have to build my sense of comfort with the idea first.
Taking on new projects.
Since last year I've been looking into buying an embroidery machine and looking into sweater blanks, its a really big project. An expensive one that I'm not sure if I'll be able to accomplish this year. But it is something that I at least want to start working towards. If this year I am able to put aside some money towards the project I'll be happy. It's a start.
Finding my community.
My biggest goal is to hopefully find and create my own community and audience for my brand. I'm hoping with everything that I have in place and with my accomplishing my other goals I can accomplish this one too. I'll make more updates about these goals and other goals on my list later in the year, I'll try my best to give an update pretty regularly so I can look back at the end of the year and look back on everything.
Let me know what some of your goals are as a small business owner this year and how you are planning and working to accomplish them or at least get them started. Maybe we can inspire each other with our own goals and we might also find new goals for ourselves as well.
Until next time, stay safe
Sabrina
