Q&A What's your routine as a small business owner?

Hello everyone,

Today's question is about what my daily routine looks like as a small business owner who runs SewnbySabrina by herself.

My day starts with my alarm, I get up and do my morning routine, wash my face, brush my teeth, brush my hair and get changed. I normally don't eat right away so after I'm ready I'll usually do something around the house to help wake me up.
That's usually something like doing the little bit dishes, cleaning the floors or popping in a load of laundry.

I'll take my breakfast and head on over to my desk, from there I'll work on my computer for a while. I'll write a few blogs, I'll rite down the weights and name ideas for whatever scrunchies I'm working on posting.
I'll work through making product listings and scheduling them for when I want/need them to go live.

I'll take some of the product pictures themselves and edit some text over top of them to make into social media posts and have them prepped and ready to go.

Depending on how many products I'm working with and plan to post at once this generally takes a bit, but I have gotten faster at it since I have my routine of how I go about creating a listing.

After that I'll clean up my desk, put my dishes away and come set up for a bit of sewing, I'll work on some bags, pinning and running them under one of the machines. Somedays I'll do some ironing of some of my stash fabric, lay it out and cut out my pattern pieces. Other days I'm going back and forth between the sewing machine and the iron.
This tends to be the case when I make my tote bags, I find it easier for me to them in batches, doing all the same steps together rather than focusing on making one tote from start to finish entirely before making the next.

Depending on what time it is by then I'll check to see what orders I have for the day and start picking and packing those up. I'll take pictures of the products for each order, since I like using order photos on my socials when I haven't had time to prep anything else. A quick picture of the current state of my work area tends to work too.

When the orders are all packed up, I'll use that as a chance to bring anything else to the mailbox with me and to go our mail at the same time. Usually I'll take a walk to the stores afterwards and get anything we might need. It's nice when it lines up with a grocery shopping day, or when we realize we ran out of something.

By the time I get back home it's about time for dinner and I'll start prepping that. After dinner I usually sit down and plan what tomorrow's tasks will be and what I hope to accomplish. This is usually when I'll also take new product pictures too. But some days I'll do this in the morning instead of the evenings, depending on the weather I might also even go outside and take advantage of the golden hour light.

At this point my day is pretty much over, I'll answer any emails or messages I've received from clients. I might also do some little tasks to save me some time tomorrow while I unwind. Like tying off threads and pinning things.
I have been trying to relax more when the evenings come since it helps me sleep better and it doesn't end in situations where I get up in the middle of the night to come back out here and keep working on my computer.

This is a basic bare bones version of my routine, depending on what happens in the day I might do different things too. I might set up my phone to livestream while I type on my computer, I might film product showcase videos or even compile some photos with a trending auto and cross post it over my socials. I might also research new product ideas or materials.

Let me know what your day as small business owner looks like, how do you like your routine, does it stay pretty much the same everyday or do you tend to switch things up depending on what is planned or needed for the day?
Can't wait to hear from you, until next time,
Sabrina
